When I first heard about Student Council from some of my friends, I thought, “that seems kinda interesting but doesn’t seem like something I’d be interested in it.” I had no interest in running and didn’t really know anything about it. When I found out that all of my friends were going to the interest meeting and would be leaving me alone during lunch, I decided to check it out. After the meeting, I was a little more interested, and that afternoon gave it some more thought. When I decided to run, I was so excited to tell all my friends and started thinking about how I’d run my campaign. During campaign week, I talked to many people I would’ve never even thought to get to know beforehand. When the results of the election were posted, I looked over the document with my friend, feeling excited but worried about starting such a new thing. I didn’t know anyone on my committee and worried I would be lonely. But when I compare how I felt during those first few meetings to now, I feel so happy seeing how many new connections I’ve made through Student council. Being a part of the Charity Ball planning process makes me feel ready to try new things and put myself out there more. I know many great things can come from new experiences.
