When I decided to run for Student Council my freshman year, I expected it to be similar to middle school—organizing teacher breakfasts, selling sodas, and planning spirit weeks. But I quickly learned that it was so much more than that.
I joined the corporate outreach subcommittee and soon found myself meeting with representatives from corporations, pitching our cause during lunch and after school. To my surprise, they were always so moved by our mission and eager to donate. At the time, I didn’t fully understand why they reacted the way they did. I thought, “It’s just Student Council, right?” I hadn’t yet realized how much of an impact Charity Ball has on our community.
Over the past few years, I’ve come to see the impact firsthand. Just recently, when we were caroling to raise awareness and funds for this year’s beneficiary, CASA, we asked people if they were familiar with the organization. The moment they heard the name, their faces lit up. Many shared how they already knew of the organization and were eager to continue supporting them.
Looking back at last year’s Charity Ball, especially the check presentation, I’m reminded of the incredible work we’ve done as a student council. It represents how all of our planning, fundraising, and outreach come together into tangible change for those in need. Charity Ball is so much more than an event—it’s a powerful reminder of the impact students can make when they come together for a cause.
