Growing up, I never understood the excitement of school dances. School dances always seemed dull and overwhelming, until my brother completely changed my perspective.
Last year, when I was in eighth grade, my brother ran for Student Council at Enloe and got elected as a class senator. He often spoke about Charity Ball, an annual school dance where he had the chance to raise money for various causes. I had never before seen any school with an initiative like this, impacting others’ lives so deeply. The more I heard about the dance, the more determined I became to run for Student Council myself. Today, I’m very proud to serve on the Freshman Student Council, following in my brother’s footsteps.
Going into Student Council, I didn’t have an ounce of experience. As I went through the process of becoming a member, I had the privilege of developing a deeper connection with the school community. This opportunity has allowed me to build connections and make a positive change, which has consistently brought a smile to my face. With Charity Ball’s famous slogan, “alive with purpose,” I’m reminded that Student Council’s efforts are contributing to a cause that touches the lives of many others, and I feel fulfilled.
Looking back at my eighth-grade year, my brothers’ mention of Charity Ball reshaped my perspective on school dances completely. What used to seem like a boring social gathering now appears to be a way of building new relationships. After learning more about Charity Ball, I recognized a deeper purpose with this particular school dance and how it serves as a platform for positive change. Charity Ball isn’t just about dressing up and dancing around, it’s a collective effort to spread awareness and help others in need. Through this experience, I’ve learned that by embracing the purpose in our actions, we have the power to inspire change and make a long-lasting impact.
